The Stewart-Swift Research Center is open by appointment only, Monday-Friday. Researchers and instructors must arrange appointments in advance to discuss their project and schedule a time to visit. Please email Elizabeth Vitek at archives@henrysheldonmuseum.org to schedule an appointment.

Please submit a list of collections or materials you wish to consult at least one week in advance. Materials can be identified through our catalog and finding aids.

The Research Center is located at: The Henry Sheldon Museum, One Park Street, Middlebury, Vermont
During public hours, enter through the main Museum entrance and check in at the front desk. Instructions will be provided for appointments scheduled outside of public hours.

Free parking is available on nearby streets (please note posted time limits) and in municipal parking lots located within walking distance of the Museum.
A limited number of accessible parking spaces are available directly in front of the Museum.
Researchers are encouraged to allow a few extra minutes to locate parking, particularly during busy times in downtown Middlebury.

Pencils and electronic devices only. No pens.
Food and drink are not permitted.
Water bottles with secure lids are allowed.

Photography is permitted for personal research use. Restrictions may apply.

Research appointments are free for Museum members. Non-members are asked to make a $10 donation per visit. Donations may be made by cash, check, or online.

Reproductions may be available. Fees and permissions may apply, particularly for publication (print or digital). Researchers are responsible for obtaining permission before publishing materials and should consult our Fees & Reproductions page for current policies and rates.

Research assistance may be available for those unable to visit. Please submit specific requests at archives@henrysheldonmuseum.org, as staff capacity is limited.
