Join us for an embroidery workshop with Eman Hayyat. Eman grew up in Middlebury, VT to a Palestinian/Jordanian family. She spent her summers in Jordan which strengthened her ties to the culture of the region. Hayyat’s travels influenced her decision to pursue a degree in Global and Middle Eastern Studies and work in a field that allows her to interact with many different cultures. Hayyat is particularly drawn to traditional art forms, such as dance, music , cooking and most recently, Tatreez. She enjoys creating things that can be enjoyed by many, be it a meal that can be shared with friends and family or a newly completed Tatreez project that can be displayed as a symbol of her heritage.
This workshop anticipates a permanent immigration history exhibit in 2027. Participants will learn a traditional Palestinian embroidery pattern and have the opportunity to think about, share, and discuss how and why immigrants to Vermont bring traditional art-making and decorative practices with them.
This event is made possible with generous support from a Vermont Community Immigration History grant funded by the Lost Mural Project and administered by the Vermont Historical Society.
Space for this workshop is limited. Ages 16 and up. *Due to overwhelming interest, the workshop is now full. Please join the waitlist below and we will contact you if a space open up. If there is enough interest, we will try to host the workshop again.
