Community, History, and Collage

September 2, 2022 – January 7, 2023

Local history museums and archives are vital to building healthy communities and to anchoring our understanding of the world around us. One may ask: What is retained and what is forgotten in historical repositories? And how does one create a visual representation of history?

Collage artists have unique skills that are particularly useful in our present historical moment. The exhibit, Artists in the Archives: Community, History & Collage, takes part in the Kasini House initiative, “Art Meets History,” that strives to build connections between contemporary art and history-focused organizations. It also asks artists to pick up the unfinished work of history and speak to the contemporary civic discourse around social, economic, and environmental issues.
